Tell us about yourself:

Knitting is my full-time job and normally I go to a university coffee shop to knit in the afternoon with my husband who is also a knitter. I love fashion and photography, I tried to combine them with my passion for knitting. After designing the work, I love to think how I can portray my aesthetic through visual images, and I enjoy this process a lot.

I love languages and cultures, I can speak English and Spanish which helps me to communicate with other knitters in the world and also learn different knitting elements from different cultures which is very inspiring.

Apart from knitting full-time, I also manage a YouTube Channel. There are not many knitting resources in Mandarin online, so it is very hard for Taiwanese self-learner to learn knitting, I wanted to share what I know about knitting and promote it in Taiwan so I started the channel in 2017 and have been sharing knitting technique videos since.

How did you start knitting?

My mom owned a yarn shop when I was a young teenager and I spent a lot of time doing my homework in the shop, during this period I learned how to knit and purl. After one-year compulsory military service I was preparing for job hunting and at the same time I learned more knitting techniques to create knitted accessories and sell them in the local hand craft market. To my surprise my designs and work attracted a lot of customer's attention and slowly it became my full-time job.

What inspires your designs?

Two things I love the most about knitting are texture and colour. Everything around me, whether it’s architecture or nature, all can be an inspiration for me. When I see something with interesting patterns or colour tones, I always try to interpret it in knitting. I think about the balance of colours, the proportion of different texture patterns and try to combine them in a harmonious way. My favourite design so far is Origami Knitting. The way it creates the folds in fabric and achieve 3D effect is very simple yet the result is so unique that it fascinates me.
