The Kathmandu sweater is inspired by the Hippie era in the 60's and 70's. Kathmandu was a popular destination for many hippies in so-called "hippie trails" at this time.

 

You'll need

Needles:

  • 3.5 mm in 32 in. / 80 cm circular needles and 16 in. / 40 cm circular needles
  • 5 mm in 32 in. / 80 cm in circular needles and 16 in. / 40 cm circular needles
  • 3.5 mm and 5 mm in double pointed needles

 

Yarn:

  • Main colour and 4 contrast colours, each in yarn of 218 yds / 200 m per 100g
  • Main colour by size (refer below): 763 (872) 981 (1090) 1199 (1308) 1417 yds / 700 (800) 900 (1000) 1100 (1200) 1300 m
  • If you’re making the neck higher add another 109 yds / 100 m to the main colour amounts.  
  • Contrast colours 1 – 4 required amounts are listed in the pattern.

Construction

The sweater is knitted in the round, from the bottom up, and should have a positive ease of about 10-15 cm.
